Snow had fallen onto the cold frozen earth, coating it with at least a foot of its crystal white glow. The sun sat a few hours ago and the night sky was now at full bloom. Stars shone brilliantly in the cloudless sky, providing viewers with plenty of opportunity for connect the dot games. The moon could not be any rounder or brighter. Its light, and the combination of the reflection against the white snow, provided day dwellers enough light to see clearly despite the fact that their eyes were not made for nightlife. Never did that ever stop Caleb from traveling at night. The nighttime held a contradictory feeling inside his soul. Night was when his mother would disappear and the whore would come out to play. Torture where those nights for him, especially when he was very young. It was on one of these nights where he had stood abandoned and alone, that he would meet someone so very important to him, someone that would mean his whole world. He never would have imagined that something so good could happen on such a bad night, that with one meeting, his life would be changed in such a big way. Caleb’s heart ached now. She had disappeared…disappeared years ago. That never stopped him, never stopped him from moving forward. He had to continue to search for her, he had to…she was his everything…everything. His golden champagne coat shimmered in the light and was speckled with flakes of snow. He has been walking in the deep snow for quite a while now. It was probably time for a break. He had long forgotten what it was like to feel fatigue. He pushed though any pain he felt. It had become second nature. Forward. There was not any other option but forward. He paused to look towards the moon. Yin. The moon, she was the moon. So beautiful and bright with a personality that shone through any clouds that might have been in the way. Yin. Yin where are you? My love, where have you gone? He bowed his head tears rolling down his checks. Yin… This wind blew his golden crème locks around in every direction as he paused in his moment of grief. Slowly raising his head up once again, he could see piles of stone arranged in the distance. His swan partner Ari’el had flown ahead a while ago. Now that he thought about it, she did go in the direction of this odd crumbling structure. His pillars moved towards the stones not fully understanding why. He knew that Ari’el would soon return to him wherever he maybe. She was never gone for too long, but yet he was moving towards her. Unsure about what was going on, he just let his impulse win over against his logic. There had to have been a reason why he was being drawn towards the structure. It wasn’t long before he was standing before the crumbling stone. It had to have been one of those ‘human’ structures that he had heard some about from some of the equine that has passed on his journey to reach his love. He scanned the old building for a while until a glint caught his eye. It was a shimmer of the lake…a beautiful lake. Intrigued, Caleb climbed down a small hill reaching the shore. For moments, he stared out into the body of water and all he could see where reflections of the past…reflections of a joy he hoped to feel in the future. It was the sight of her smiling face, the twinkle of her eyes, something there that captured my heart from the first sight. I remember all those times we played together as foals. Who could forget? Her soft voice always knew what to say, it surely knew how speak polite rhyme. It took a while to get her to think about herself above others sometimes and I would like to think I was successful despite the difficulty. If only I could see her now, her onyx face, white glistening coat, to feel her black mane whip at my face. I forever see her in my mind running with a joyous smile on her face. Yin…if you can hear me…you remember that dream I told you I had once. You know, the one where I saw us running about…with foals running around us…our children…I love you. I want us to be happy. Our family. I can’t leave it behind. I love you. Your touch, your voice, I remember it so clear, but you are so far away…where are you?! Drip, drop. His tears where falling in the water as he awoke from his daze, seeing what he refused to forget. He couldn’t possibly ever forget. A love so young, so strong, destined to never break. He hoped that he would be able to sing again, sing a love song. He couldn’t ever move on to another mare. Such a thought sickened him. He wasn’t like all those other stallions. He wasn’t driven by his hormones, but by his sheer power of will. He loved before hormones would rule his body. He had a true love. He had Yin. He couldn’t possible want anyone else. Her pure heart along with his pure soul… to see you always, your bright blue eyes... caleb - stallion - spirit - hopelessly in love - mute swan - ari'el |
